Onion

Onion, a vegetable belongs to the lily family. A raw 100 gm onion has 40 calories, 89% water, 1.1 grams protein and 1.7 grams fiber and 2 mg Vitamin C. It works as a natural cooling food during summer. All these properties of onion makes it a cooling food for summer. The Vitamin C and Fiber content improves digestion and strengthen the body with against diseases and infections.

Consume it as a salad during mid day meal and make it a good afternoon lunch. You can try adding salt, black pepper and onion drops to enhance the taste of raw onion salad.

Watermelon

The water based fruit, watermelon constitutes 92% water. Consuming watermelon pieces or juice provides enough water content to the body during summer to function properly.

It is a good source of natural sugar (glucose), amino acid, potassium, Vitamin C and magnesium as well. These minerals together fuels the body with anti-infection and inflammatory bodies that keeps infections and muscle soreness away. Many studies and medical practitioners suggest water juice as a best fruit juice for summer.

Curd

Curd is one of the best cooling foods. It is an affordable dairy product rich in calcium and protein. It supplies much needed energy. The protein content of curd digests slowly thus keeps your body energised for a longer time.

You can consume curd with salt and sugar. Also, you can prepare raita or bundi raita and consume it with meal.

Cucumber

Our body is made of 80% water and during summer we sweat and lose the water content. A watery fruit, cucumber could be a good food source to supply enough water content to the body other than water. It consists of 95% water. The presence of magnesium, potassium, and Vitamin helps in body temperature regulation and improves the functioning of heart, lungs and kidneys.

You can consume cucumber in many ways. Add in a form of salad, make cucumber raita or prepare a Cucumber-Pudina mocktail. It is advisable to eat cucumber and its products in the morning and afternoon time. Avoid it during night time.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is one of the low carbs and calories items easily available throughout the country. The presence of sodium in the coconut water helps in replenishing the amount of salt lost due to hot weather. Magnesium helps with body temperature regulation. The presence of potassium in coconut water works as an electrolyte that promotes cardiovascular health.
