Tips for making effective power point presentations

PPT theme

When you are preparing a PPT, think like a reader and what category and audience it is for. Understanding these points will help you clear your vision for power presentation creation. You can search for ready made PPT templates and themes over the internet for power point and get started.

Title Slide

First impression is the last impression. It will set a stage for your presentation whether it will engage the reader or not. So, before you prepare a title slide, think of the purpose of your PPT. Here are the five sections you could check below to identify what title slide could be the best for you.

More visuals, less text

An image is worth a thousand words. This is true, images and visuals engages the audience compared to plain text. Also, a picture enables the reader to grab the things better. So, while preparing the slides, you should focus on using more infographics, statistics data etc.

For text part, follow the 5/5/5 rule. 5 words per line, 5 lines per slide, and 5 heavy text-slides in a row. This will keep your presentation to the point and help you grab attention of the reader.

Colors and fonts

Colors and fonts play a major factor in PPT designing. It is advisable to choose fonts and colors wisely based on the purpose and audience of PPT. Always use decent color combinations for background that should look good to eyes. Similarly, use standard or professional fonts (e.g. Times New Roman) that should not look heavy to the reader.

Give a proper focus to the structure. Suppose you have used H2 for slide headings, H3 for sub-headings then you should follow the same pattern through out the PPT. It makes your PPT looks professional.

Ending Note

It is a good practice to always add an ending note to the PPT. You’re PPT should have a Thank You slide. You can either write “Thank You” in a big font or can use a Thank You Image for PPT as well available on the internet.
